Rapid, high-volume entry donations for scaling festival growth
The Lapu Lapu Festival quickly outgrew its original infrastructure. As attendance surged, managing hundreds of entry donations efficiently became a significant challenge.
The team struggled to find a system that could accommodate rapid transactions, volunteer workflows, and unpredictable crowd flow without creating bottlenecks.

Our approach
Following a cold call and volunteer sign-up, Mahalo trained 10 volunteers and set up a POS workflow in just 30 minutes.
The primary goal was to make donations the “cost of entry” while preserving the spirit of giving, focusing on speed and ease of use for high-volume transactions.
Impact
High-Volume Processing
Processed 257 transactions and raised $2,503 with an average donation of $15 in just 3.5 hours.
Speed & Efficiency
Multiple Mahalo cards processed transactions as quickly as one person could tap a phone to a card, enabling massive scale and preventing bottlenecks at entry points.
Positive Reception
Organizers described Mahalo as "innovative, intuitive, elegant," and featured it in their Instagram stories.
Replicable System
Mahalo helped create a replicable system for other cultural or community-driven nonprofits, offering fast setup, lower fees, distributed collection via deviceless POS, and volunteer-friendly tools.
Operational Improvement
By streamlining the chaos of live event donations, Mahalo elevated both the attendee experience and the operational execution behind the scenes, enabling the festival to scale and modernize.
